Arandel – L’Heure du Loup (Edit)

The hour of the wolf is the stretch before dawn when sleep runs deepest and dreams hit hardest, and Arandel sets “L’Heure du Loup” right in that gap. It starts from an improvisation on a positive organ, a small pipe organ, then piles on harpsichord, strings and winds, analogue synths and spectral choirs, with Louis Delorme’s drums keeping the whole thing from settling. The acoustic instruments keep surfacing out of the electronics and sinking back in, so it’s never clear what’s played and what’s generated, which suits a piece about being half awake.
